With all the giving that goes on among us humans this time of year, it’s easy to overlook the feathered and furry friends who share our world. Doggie or kitty, ferret or penguin, our best friends love us unconditionally. Shouldn’t we return the love a little bit?
So today’s Act of Kindness is to give a little extra love to the kitties, pooches and other little creatures who live among us. Have a special kitty? Buy Fluffy a toy stuffed with catnip, roll out a ginormous ball of yarn, or let her have the last bite of your tuna sandwich. Got a pooch you love to bits? Give Bowser an extra-long tummy rub, take him for a really long walk, or go outside and throw him the ball until your arm hurts. Own a pet penguin? We have three words for you: fish, fish, fish!
Not a pet owner? There are lots of ways to show your love for our animal friends. Here are just a few ideas:
-Offer to take your friend’s dog for a walk (your furry and not-so-furry friend alike will love you for it)
-Take the kids down to the local pond to see the ducks, and teach them why they shouldn’t feed them human food – especially bread
-Go fishing and throw the fish back (unless you bring your penguin)
-Go down to your local animal shelter and play with the kitties and doggies
-Donate $20 (or whatever you can afford) to the World Wildlife Fund.
There are lots of ways to show our animal companions how much we love them. If you have a particularly good idea or story, tell us in the comments!
