Transformational Ancient Astrology - Part I
Wouldn't you have liked that when you were born, there would have been a little card or manual attached to you, that mapped out who you really are?
Many people who hear about Astrology, think it’s something strange and psychic for charlatans. But so many people have opinions about so many things that they haven’t really honestly researched from various angles with an open mind. They are simply responding from their limited box of knowledge and values.
In an age of greater complexity and more challenging problems, I find we can no longer afford to turn a blind eye to ideas that could help transform our thinking and problem solving capabilities. Sometimes, breakthroughs come from being able to switch from an analog watch box-thinking to an electronic watch box-thinking. Both systems keep time, but are based on completely different paradigms. If you want progress, you have to be willing to examine your paradigm, your values and beliefs you hold so dear, that you acquired along the way via osmosis from the people in your background and from what’s an accepted norm in the culture you live in. Or perhaps you developed values that are in opposite, in rebellion of what is traditional. Very likely someone influenced you into it also.
Did you know that in India you can earn a PhD in Astrology? Other cultures and people may value something we don’t know about, does this not peak your interest?
Astrology is simply the science that discovered that the planetary bodies emanate various energies that influence people and circumstances. Many common people observe that there is heightened activity during a full moon. Emotions run higher and people feel energized and activated. This is a simple example of the influence of the energy of the moon on the emotions of the people. The observation is correct. The moon does effect the emotional aspect of people.
The Sun traditionally does also hold a lot of symbolism. Ikhnaton in Ancient Egypt worshiped the Sun as the Life Giver and nourishing source of all things. It’s connected to kingship, leadership, shinning your identity. People naturally and intuitively sense the energy and the meaning of the energy of the Sun. In astrological science, the Sun does stand for your primary self, your shinning self. Mercury stands for strong mental ability, travel, communication and speed, among other things. The qualities attributed to the Ancient God Mercury in Greek Mythology. So, we can see that intuitively the sense that planets emanate certain energies that translate in particular qualities is embedded throughout history.
How did the three Magi find the baby Jesus? How did they? First of all they knew about his coming through oral traditions. And they were able to track down the astrological configurations as being extraordinary special, and by intuition. The science of Astrology is ancient and has a long history and tradition of development.
Astrology is based on the physical planets we can empirically see. Their influence and interpretation of influence is an intuitive science developed through a long history of observation. Many indigenous cultures had a close connection to the body celestial and perceived their influence on terrestrial happenings. As above so below.
Astrology can be really understood by delving into it and applying it to one’s own life and watching and observing. Developing the qualities of intuition to analyze and interpret things, without reading into things.
I use a basic form of astrology to boost self-understanding. Many people have found it immensely helpful to make sense of things and help them overcome weaknesses and obstacles.
Astrology is a map of our potential and nothing is set in stone. I don’t belief in fatalistic astrological thinking. And if one would feel confined and superstitious because of it, it’s better not to engage in it. It takes a mature, balanced and professional approach and it’s important to keep everything in perspective.
Indeed we came with a little map when we were born, only it wasn’t attached to our foot, but it was attached to the skies.
