Finding your state of flow
In the world of business, this tragic situation is observed when an individual’s natural skills and inclination is simply not a fit for their career.
Mindfulness is developing the ability to have a moment-by-moment awareness of our thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and surrounding environment, through a gentle, nurturing lens.
#Mindfulness also involves acceptance, meaning that we pay attention to our thoughts and feelings without judging them—a state of being #equanimous .
Our urban life can be far from being mindful. If anything it is patterned to move individuals away from being mindful. How does this translate in the world of business ?
James Taylor once said,“You can play the game and act out the part, even though you know it wasn’t written for you.” In the world of business, this tragic situation occurs when an individual’s natural skills and inclination are simply not a fit for the career they chose.
When people find their fit, they experience a state of happiness and creativity called #flow. In an era of #urbanstress and social media distraction, Ikigai sheds light on the importance of focus, social ties, a healthy lifestyle, and a larger sense of purpose.
Ikigai translates into “the happiness of always being busy.” The “existential fuel” lies at the intersection of what you love, #whatyouaregoodat, #whatyoucanbepaidfor, and #whattheworldneeds. This is different for everyone and each has to find his own path and when you find this state of energy, you feel you are guided. You are happy to let your soul lead you and evolve as directed. This also leads individuals to have a #positiveattitude and a high degree of emotional awareness. They can manage their emotions during times of setbacks. Being mindful also makes you peaceful and helps appreciate the more important as well as the finer aspects of life.
This is a unique state in which people are so involved in their work that nothing else seems to matter, the experience itself is so enjoyable that people will do it at great cost, for the sheer sake of doing it. There is a perfect level of challenge that sustains #theimmersivepowerofflow . Too much challenge leads to anxiety, too little leads to boredom. Taking small steps at a time and cultivating a habit of discipline helps get past inertia blocks into the zone of flow. A strong ability to focus and concentrate is called for to sustain flow.
Digital media being one of the greatest boons also becomes one of the greatest distractions if not
used with discipline. "technology fasting” helps actively engage our minds on states that can take us to flow states. Too much multi-tasking, as appreciated and encouraged in the modern life can lead to mistakes, wastage of time, reduced productivity, exhaustion, feeling of loss of control, less creativity, and inability to remember etc.
It saddens me to see how everything from school curriculum, expectations from parents and the larger societal system, leads people living their lives in #quietdesperation, #stuckincareers that are both uninspiring and unfulfilling.
