Back In Time
Your past can be present and help the future
So, you’ve set a goal and now you are taking the necessary steps to achieve it. Sounds simple, right? It can be at times as you’re driven by excitement and passion for the project. But then you may find yourself up against a challenge or obstacle that you didn’t anticipate. You may begin to question why you even began this journey and for a brief second may even contemplate quitting all together. This is when you need to revisit a past triumph; a win in your life where the odds were against you but perseverance took you to the finish line.
Reflecting on those past victories helps to re-energize a defeated soul. It serves as a reminder of how this is not the first time you’ve faced adversity and if you overcame it then, you could do it again. That’s why I’m a huge fan of journaling as this provides you with insight into your past, your struggles, your successes and everything in between. Your journal serves as a guidebook; helping you navigate difficult times. Because this journal contains your words, it will resonate deeper than to read what a complete stranger writes in a book or blog. While their words may be encouraging and even helpful in many instances, nothing can impact you more than to glean wisdom from your own personal experiences.
I encourage you today to snag a notebook and begin to transfer your ideas, struggles, joys and questions from your heart and mind to the paper before you. Begin to document all that is happening in your life and don’t just focus on the difficulties but also include days and moments when you feel amazing, and the world is aligning with everything you are trying to do. Then your journal becomes an accurate snapshot of your life, a timeline that will lead you from your first entry to your present state. And while at times, your writings may be hard to read as you revisit a tough time in your past, the growth that occurs will enable you to see the possibilities, which will in turn, will motivate you to stay the course and fulfill your purpose.
