Hello, I’m a 22-year-old African-American woman currently navigating an important stage in my life and career. I’m reaching out in hopes of finding guidance and mentorship as I work to gain clarity about my future path. I hold both LPN and CNA licenses and have been working in healthcare, but I’ve realized that while I’m proud of these accomplishments, I’m uncertain whether nursing is the career I want to pursue long-term. Throughout my journey—from becoming a licensed nurse to raising my 2-year-old daughter independently—I’ve learned that I have the determination and resilience to overcome challenges. For example, I completed LPN school at age 20 while working full-time and pregnant. I passed the NCLEX on my first attempt after only two weeks of studying with a newborn at home. I’ve also made significant strides financially, purchasing my first home at 21 and paying off my first vehicle by 18. However, like many young adults, I’ve struggled with distractions and consistency, especially in school environments. I’ve attempted community college multiple times but found it difficult to stay engaged, often due to personal distractions and a lack of support. To change that, I’ve chosen to take a break from dating and focus entirely on self-development and creating a better life for myself and my daughter. While I initially believed I’d stay in nursing for life, I’ve since explored other interests—including respiratory therapy, radiologic technology, cybersecurity, medical coding, business, human resources, and even entrepreneurship. I was most recently enrolled in a business program at WGU, but I’m currently on a five-month break to reflect on whether it aligns with my true passions. One dream I’ve held onto is opening a local arcade business—a safe, fun space for kids in my hometown, where there are limited recreational options. At this point, I’m seeking structured guidance. I need help narrowing down my options, staying focused, and building a practical, fulfilling path forward. I believe I have the potential to do something meaningful—I’ve proven that I can overcome tough odds—but I know I would benefit greatly from mentorship and direction.
