JAMES BODDY Northampton, Massachusetts
Leadership Coach, Executive Coach, Team Coach
Law Professional, Ed.M (Harvard), Professional Certified Coach, Integral Coach
I coach individuals looking to find purpose in their working and personal lives. My clients often feel their current work isn't fully aligned with their values and aspirations - but they want it to be. Through our work together, you will develop a deeper sense of meaning and direction, and build the competencies and structures you need to thrive and grow.
I'm a Professional Certified Coach with the International Coach Federation (with over 750 logged coaching hours), and a certified Integral Coach with New Ventures West. My approach is integral, which means I take a holistic approach and focus on long-term and sustainable outcomes. As my client, I will listen deeply to what you have to say, and help you find the way forward for yourself.
Clients I've worked with say that I'm “intelligent and intuitive”, “very open, understanding and empathetic”, and that I'm “incredibly adept at getting to the true heart of an issue and offering wise insight and practical steps to work with”. They say they “felt inspired" working with me.
Originally from the UK, I moved to the US in June 2014. I've recently completed a Master's degree from Harvard University in Human Development & Psychology. This has given me the opportunity to develop a unique approach to supporting clients as they inquire into purpose. Drawing on the latest psychological research, I lead clients through a structured process that allows them to discover a deeper sense of their purpose. Importantly, I also support clients in making this practical: exploring how they can take action to give effect to their emerging sense of purpose in the real world.
I came to this work from a professional background. I have 10 years’ experience as lawyer in the UK, working initially at a leading set of chambers and then at a niche litigation firm. I've also been a business owner and a company director of a start-up business.

James is a truly amazing coach. Still remember his advice and guidance ... over a decade ago, where he helped me to overcome my fear of public speaking and my lack of self confidence. Now I am able to address thousands of people and have a strong sense of self confidence. I will always remain indebted to how James helped me to kick start my life, in ways others couldnt before him. I hope many more people will take up the opportunity to experience James' coaching.Amran, National Delivery Officer of NHS England, UK
James’ coaching style was very patient and calm and very focused. He was always well prepared for the sessions, having a clear subject to be worked on… He helped me to understand the importance of being a bit more in control. That acceptance is not submission, and so, I could be assertive and speak out even in situations of conflict… He was competent, adaptable and sympathetic.N.M, Actor and Producer, Brazil
“James was always present and focused on our discussions… He has the courage to listen and challenge… His style of coaching is to approach matters as a whole rather than focus on specific aspects in isolation. This ‘whole view’ approach encourages a broad view and exploration of underlying narratives… I felt inspired working with James. It was a reflective period but James managed to keep some sense of lightness… He was patient, brave and kind.”O.S., Head of Marketing, energy consultancy firm, UK
I found James very open, understanding and empathetic. At every turn I felt that he was responding to me in an intelligent and intuitive manner, and not imposing any preconceived ideas of what he thought might be helpful. If an approach he recommended was not bringing about the results he expected, he had no compunction at re-thinking based on his deepening understanding of me. He was incredibly adept at getting to the true heart of an issue, and offering wise insight and practical steps to work with them.
I found James’s approach very holistic …. He was still yet energetic. His style seems to be to listen, understand, and then offer very practically advice on how to deepen my understanding too. He is not didactic, nor a drill-sergeant or cheerleader. I found that in our sessions the work was done on a much deeper level than this.
James helped me recognize certain negative thought patterns, and advised me how to work with them. This is a much bigger achievement than simply to, for example, increase my confidence. On a deeper level, I felt that a lot of great work was done to help me discover and define a more authentic approach to the world and life in general, that I am continuing to work with.E.D., Account Director at leading advertising agency, Netherlands
