About Me

I’m James Powell, founder of humanKIND—a leadership coaching and performance consultancy built on the belief that growth should be holistic, balanced, and deeply human. Over the last 30 years, I’ve helped leaders, founders, and organizations unlock their potential, lead authentically, and create thriving, high-performance outcomes at work, at home, and in the world.

But my journey here wasn’t linear—it was messy, challenging, and deeply personal.

For years, I worked in high-pressure industries like advertising and marketing, leading teams and building some of the world’s top brands. I lived and worked across Toronto, Hong Kong, Australia, South Africa, and the U.S., constantly chasing success and validation. On the surface, I had it all: the titles, the recognition, the achievements. But inside, something wasn’t right.

No matter how much I achieved, the same questions kept following me: Why doesn’t this feel good? Does the constant drive ever stop? Is this really what I want to do for the rest of my life?

In 2010, I hit rock bottom. I had to stop running, confront my truth, and rebuild my life from the inside out. I redefined success on my own terms and created humanKIND—a space where I partner with others to help them do the same.

Today, I specialize in leadership coaching, team coaching, and organizational consulting that prioritizes connection, authenticity, and sustainable growth. Since 2009, I’ve coached over 350 leaders, executives, and entrepreneurs, helping them navigate transitions, build inclusive teams, and lead with purpose. I’m certified by the ICF, CTI, and Integrative Enneagram Solutions and have worked as a TEDx speaker coach.
