The first thing I'd like to share with you is that I've been there. I remember vividly a moment when I was on a Webex with my laptop on the kitchen island, and I was trying to participate in a call that wouldn't be rescheduled with folks on the West coast while I was trying to make dinner for my family.
It was at the moment when one of my stakeholders asked "Hey Kate, What's for dinner tonight?" and there was laughter by the male dominated call, that I realized this wasn't working. The constant juggle of making it all work. The being forced to live my life around someone else's schedule. The inflexibility the workplace provided as a working Mom who pumped in bathrooms and labs that had (unknown to me) surveillance cameras... but hey, at least this door locked.
I decided after years of being beat up for being the only woman on an engineering team, or the only female sales engineer, or the only young mother... that I was going to do something differently from then on, and change that.
I became a certified internal Coach while I was pregnant with my second child. I quickly realized that I wasn't the only woman in tech with these challenges. I left Cisco Systems without a backwards glance in January 2016, right after that baby turned 1.
I am a certified PCC and CPCC (this basically means that I was trained and believe in ethics and a way of doing things as a Coach.) I consider myself a multi passionate entrepreneur; I've always got something cooking in the wings that is creative and keeps the fire bright. I have a graduate degree in Organizational Leadership, and I use that work to consult with companies to design Leadership Acceleration Programs for women and BIPOC employees.
Personally, I'm a wife to the guy I knew was the one in High School. We have 2 amazing kids, and 2 pesky standard Poodles. We call Durham, NC home. I love to travel, eat sushi, make pierogi, crochet, make candles, and lead Girl Scout Troops.
I'm look forward to meeting you soon!
