About Me

I have worked with disabled people as a volunteer or employee or volunteer for almost my whole life, and some of that work involved helping people to do transition planning. But I didn't expect to have to do that work for myself when I had a stroke after brain surgery at age 22. Faced with the question, "What are you going to do with your life now?", I panicked. I wish I'd had someone to tell me what I now know: disability isn't the end, it's not tragic, and it can only limit me if I let it.

I use a 5-stage coaching process to help people whose lives have been significantly changed by disability or chronic illness to design the life the want, set goals, and create a plan to achieve them. To di this, I draw on my experiences in the disability sector, my degree in psychology and my diploma in Developmental Services, and the life experience I have as a disabled person trying to fit into a world not really designed for me. Over 25 years after my stroke, I am very happy as a person who walks with a cane and lives one-handed. I know that you can find happiness too, regardless of what society tells you.
