Are you fulfilled in your career?

For the professionals who want more in their career...
Have you ever been asked this question? I don’t remember anyone asking me this question before, as if it was not the most important part of being in a career.
Step back and picture someone asking you this question: “Are you fulfilled in your career?” How do you feel right now?
Some would say that it’s an intimate question, some would feel the pressure to answer “yes, of course”, some would feel anxious about it because it raises the big questions they never dare asking themselves.
It almost sounds taboo! How come? Isn’t it the ultimate goal? Being happy in what you do? However, we must know what makes us happy, what we are meant to do to reach self-fulfillment.
I meet so many people who are lost in translation with themselves, as if they were disconnected from their core, from who they really are. There are so many factors around us that corrupt our vision, that distract us in staying on track whether it is our busy lives, people’s opinion, financial responsibilities, self-doubt, routine, security, comfort zones and many more.
They forget why they work. I believe your career – among other things – helps you realize yourself.
So what about those of you who stay in a job because it’s more comfortable than answering those big questions? Don’t you want to find yourself? Don’t you want to experiment that amazing feeling of satisfaction that you get as a result of fully developing your potential?
I can now hear some of you asking: “What does it mean to be fulfilled? How do I know that I am fulfilled? What does it take to be fulfilled? Is my career supposed to bring me fulfillment?”
What do you think?
No one but you know what you want and what you need. Fulfillment starts with gazing at your navels seriously. What about starting with looking at your values? You know those principles that are so important as they define your behavior, your choices and what’s truly worth?
Being aware of your values is the first step to see where you are at in your current career and what’s missing. What’s important to you, not what you think should be important.
Identify what you want and value, and find a career that matches it. Make a plan to get there! By finding the career that matches how you work and what you value, your work can give you purpose and meaning.
What about starting now?
