5 Keys for Transforming Your Life

Posted on May 28, 2021 by Justin Gerard, One of Thousands of Career Coaches on Noomii.

If you want to transform your life drastically, this article is for you. Using these 5 keys, you are able to transforms your life condition fast.

This is for people who are seeking to change their life, you have reached a point when you just can’t put up with it any more. It might be a break up, or a behaviour that you are putting up with or maybe you are sick and tired with the current condition of life, where you said enough is enough! If you want to change your life drastically, this article is for you. Using these 5 keys, you are able to turn your life around fast. I know it’s a very ordicious claim, please test it out and share with me your experience. The first thing you need to understand about transformation is that it’s a process of conversion from desire into result. Let me share with you a metaphor I love. A hydroelectric plant does not have electricity, it transforms one form of energy to electrical energy. Likewise, to transform your life you need to transform desire into action. A desire must have a clear vision on the end result you want to (a clear vision, the desire, and action to create transformation). To experience a transformation, we first need to know what we want to transform or evolve to. So, what are the experiences you want to have in life? You may list down the experience you want to have in your career, family, social, health, intellectual, spiritual, significant relationship, lifestyle. This will now be your vision you want for yourself. Be bold about what you want to experience and do not worry about how you are going to do it. You just need to be clear on what you want to experience in your life. The prerequisite for transformation is you know what you want. Now let’s move on to transformation. The second key to transform your life is to consciously take control of your state. State is your current snapshot of your mind and emotion. State is influenced by the thoughts (psychology) in our mind and physical condition of the body (physiology). When I ask executives “what is the emotional state you feel on a Monday morning after you wake up from sleep?”, most people answer with a sigh “It’s Monday again” with no enthusiasm and with a cloud of laziness surrounding them. If the emotional energy on Monday is low, it’s no wonder people are unable to perform at their best at work. When we take control of our state of mind and body, we can shift our experience from boredom to excitement. The fastest way of doing this is to shift the way we move our body. Changing your posture or the depth of breathing, stand or sit in a way as if we were totally energised and focus on the benefits of what we are going to do.

There is an interesting Ted Talk by Amy Cuddy titled “Your body language may shape who you are”. In the Ted Talk she explains how the power of posture influences our biochemical reaction (homonouns) in our body. Just standing in a power posture for about 2 minutes will help you increase your confidence. Have a view on the Ted Talk.
Reality check
1. What is the default state or emotion I experience in a week?
2. What emotion would I like to experience in a week?
3. What would I need to do to trigger the emotion state?

The third key is to take control of your environment. Our environment is crucial, it’s either corrosive or nurturing. Just imagine if we insert an ice cube into a cup of hot water, what would happen to the water in the cup? You guessed it right, the ice cube will melt. Humans are the only creatures who have the ultimate freedom to decide where we want to live. Think about it, if you don’t like your job, or the city you live in, you have the ultimate freedom to come out of the environment. The question is right now is your environment supporting you towards your vision or is it designed to distract and drain you? We are required to inject a little consciousness into designing our environment. For example, I once took up the challenge to journal and read everyday. Every night before I go to sleep I would arrange and clean up my working desk to have just my Journal and a book that I’m reading for that week. So every morning once I have completed my meditation, the book and the journal on my desk immediately trigger me to start journaling. Every time we have some really audacious goal we want to accomplish, we spend so much time working on the strategy and little time in setting up our environment to be supportive of the goal. Now let’s check up on our environment,

1.Is my environment supporting me towards my goal?
2.What 3 things I need to remove from my environment that are preventing me from progressing?
3.How should I step up my environment for success?

The fourth key is to take control of your habits. What makes a person successful and sustains the success in the long run? I assume you have good dental health. How do you do that effortlessly? I assume you have a habit of brushing your teeth first thing in the morning and the last thing before you go to sleep. I assume you must have unconsciously set up the environment that supports this habit. Well, what about the unproductive habit? I’m referring to the habits that you know you should let go but can’t seem to do it. Like the continuous scrolling in social media platforms, or binge watching some series in netflix. Let’s design habits that will help us be successful and sustain the success. A reality check.

1.What habits do I have that are productive towards my vision?
2.What 3 unproductive habits do I know I should stop immediately?
3.What 3 habits I need to embrace to achieve my vision?

The fifth key is to take control of our imagination. I love the quote from Albert Einstein on imagination. “Imagination is everything, it is the preview of life’s coming attraction.” Imagination is so powerful and many of us use it in a negative way that doesn’t serve us. Our brain can’t tell the difference between reality and what’s imagined. Many of us use imagination in a way that gives us fear and anxiety about the future. Sometimes we all fall into the trap where we imagine the worst possible scenario in the future for us and get paralysed with fear to take any step. Of course the tendency of our brain is to protect us from danger and keep us safe, but the truth is we don’t have any wild animals that are going to hunt us down like the stone age. We need to raise our consciousness on how we are using the power of imagination in our life. Reality Check.

1.What do I imagine most of the time? (what is my default imagination?)
2.How much energy or time have I spent immagine the thing I want and do not want to experience?
3.When can I schedule time to visualize what I want to experience?

How do you put it all together?
Step 1 : Know you vision
Step 2 : Take control of the state you are in.
Step 3 : Take control and consciously design your environment.
Step 4: Take control of your habit and consciously select your habit
Step 5 : Take control of your imagination and focus on what you want.

Now let’s put it all together. Firstly we need to know our vision and develop confidence, and the belief to move forward. Here’s how I do it. Every morning I develop the habit of having the first 20-30 minutes for myself. Tony Robbins calls this process priming or hour of power. I believe it’s extremely important to control the first hour once we wake up from sleep. At this point, we are still in the alpha state and it is the best state of mind to program yourself. Therefore, I developed a habit to meditate and use the power of imagination to see and experience my vision, the things I’m grateful for and how my day is going to be, what state I want to be in and what state I don’t want to be in. I will then start journaling my insight and ideas I have and write down my action plan towards it. Plus, I ensure my environment is supportive enough for my morning meditation, journaling and my vision.
