HOW TO MAKE GOOD DECISIONS CONSISTENTLY

Posted on February 16, 2022 by Theodore Petrus, One of Thousands of Executive Coaches on Noomii.

The ability to make good decisions consistently is one of the most critical skills to master. Here are 3 tips to improve your decision-making skills.

One of the major differences between those who succeed and those who don’t, is the ability to make good decisions, as opposed to bad decisions.

Arguably, the ability to make good decisions in business, career and life is one of the key factors that determines whether you achieve your goals, or make the kind of impact that you would want to make, or not.

The good news is that making good decisions is a learnable skill. Like any skill, the only way to get better at it is to practise it, and keep finding ways to develop it.

Here are 3 ways to get better at making good decisions consistently, thereby reducing the number of poor decisions that could cost you results:

1. Before making a decision, get all the information you need. We often hear of making an “informed decision”. Good decisions are often the result of the decision-maker having most, if not all, of the relevant information required to make the decision.

2. Use long-term thinking. Often the decisions we make have significant long-term consequences. Critical decisions that have great long-term impact require long-term thinking to improve the chances of making the right decision. Thinking about all the possible ways that a decision could impact on your business, career or life can help you in making better decisions, because you’re considering the long-term consequences.

3. Devote more time to decisions that have more significant consequences. Ideas 1 and 2 above both imply that important decisions should not be made hurriedly, especially if their consequences could be significant. Hence, take the time to fully consider your options, the information you have, and the potential consequences.
