Closed Doors

I used to be sad and question why doors of opportunity would close for me. I questioned my credentials and experience – my personality even. I questioned if I did something wrong or if I was being “punished.”

Can anyone relate?

Over the last 5 years I’ve come to welcome and pray for closed doors. In fact, just yesterday I prayed that God would keep opening the doors I’m supposed to be walking through and to shut – even slam – the doors I have no business in.

And sure enough, early this morning another door shut which further clarified the direction God is calling me in. Is it bittersweet? A little. Did I freak out? No. Why? Because it has become the way I know I’m right where I’m supposed to be.

You see, sometimes I need God to be very clear with me on the details. He’s proven to me over and over again that I’m welcome to walk through any door I want if it’s unlocked. However if it’s locked or shut it my face I better keep stepping and don’t try to force it open. There’s reasons that door shut and I have no business walking through it. I have learned this the hard way.

Now have I walked through unlocked doors only to turn around and walk back out at some point? Yes. I learned the lessons I needed to learn, blessed the people I was called to bless, and then entered the next door.

So here’s to another closed door. I’m so thankful for the time I had among those that were in that room. Now we’ll just move into a different phase of the bigger picture.
