How To Identify The Signs Of A Wounded Inner Child

We all sense at a deep level — that our childhood self never really left us, that they still exist alongside our adult identity. The wounded inner child is the emotional and psychological part of us that carries unresolved pain, trauma, and unmet needs from our childhood. They are unable to set healthy boundaries in relationships, leading to feeling taken advantage of or mistreated.

Low self-esteem
A wounded inner child has low self-esteem and feels unworthy, leading to feelings of inadequacy or shame, often feeling inadequate and powerless, they have self-doubt, self-criticism, and a lack of confidence.

People-pleasing
They have learned to please others to gain love and approval it is very difficult for them to set boundaries, and prioritize their needs.

Difficulty forming healthy relationships
They are difficult in relationships and struggle with intimacy, trust, and vulnerability They may attract toxic or abusive partners or struggle to maintain healthy connections.

Emotional instability
People with a wounded inner child can experience intense and unstable emotions, such as anger, fear, anxiety, sadness, and depression find it hard to regulate their emotions and feel overwhelmed by them. They can be easily triggered by situations or people, leading to intense emotional reactions that may not be proportional to the situation.

Difficulty in expressing emotions
A wounded inner child may have difficulty expressing their emotions or needs, leading to emotional repression or withdrawal.
