Posted on April 16, 2024 by Jon Jon Tay, One of Thousands of Life Coaches on Noomii.

The article discusses what is a healthy diet and what is obesity in general and what the resulting diseases as a result of obesity

A Healthy Diet

A healthy diet is defined as where one consumes a significant amount of fruit and vegetables (Shaw 2010). According to the World Health Organization (2022) a healthy diet includes fruit, vegetables, legumes, nuts and whole grains and should be free from sugars that is usually added to foods and drinks by the manufacturer as well as sugars in honey, syrups and fruit juices. For adults one should consume more unsaturated fats like those found in fish, avocado, nuts, soya and olive oils. One should reduce intake of saturated fats like like those found in meat, butter and ghee as well as trans fats generally found in processed foods. Sodium intake should also be reduced to less than 5 gramme of salt.

A healthy diet generally wards of obesity which is often linked to the failure to eat healthily. In British children, childhood obesity is linked to not eating meals prepared by schools, low spending on food and not having adequate exercise. Too much time spent on the Net is also a factor that contributes to youth obesity. Youth and old age are risk factors for poor diet because young people have less experience and knowledge of cooking and old people are less inclined to produce labor intensive meals. The young and old are also generally have below average incomes and fall into a category of poverty.

Obesity and Disease from being Over Weight

The Mayo Clinic (2022) states that obesity is a complex non communicable disease with an excess amount of body fat. This causes concern as it may result in health problems such as heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and cancer. Usually obesity results from inherited, physiological and environmental factors coupled with lack of activity and exercise. A healthy diet with increased physical activity can result in weight loss which minimizes and reduces the health related problems that come with obesity.

Poor diet can lead to heart disease that is associated with obesity. It goes without saying that it can transverse age, gender and ethnicity. It is important that with a good diet that people who suffer these challenges indulge in exercise and brisk walking. Extra weight is thought to cause increased cholesterol levels, high blood pressure, and increased risk of coronary artery disease. Also the prevalence of diabetes may increase as one becomes overweight (NHNA 2022). Generally, males are more prone to heart disease than females. It is important that one refrains from a stress free non smoking environment to minimize heart problems and disease.

Some Solutions

Obese heart patients should detoxify with Vitamin E, Q10 and avoid consuming spicy sea food and fried food. The consumption of legumes and a proper balance of exercise and stress free rest is also recommended (NHNA 2022). Generally, a balanced diet is a must for a healthy disposition and the calorie has to be monitored closely so that obesity is kept at bay.
