Exploring Life as a Highly Sensitive Person
Hi and welcome — I’m so glad you’re here.
I’m Mark, a Certified Professional Coach and a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP). I am especially passionate about helping other HSP’s thrive at life! I’ve created a Substack dedicated to a topic that’s often misunderstood, overlooked, or dismissed entirely: high sensitivity. If you’ve ever been told you’re “too sensitive,” “too emotional,” or if you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by bright lights, loud noises, or the moods of people around you — you might be a highly sensitive person (HSP). And if that resonates, then this space is for you.
So, what exactly is high sensitivity? Being a highly sensitive person is not a weakness or a flaw. It’s a temperament trait — studied and named by psychologist Dr. Elaine Aron — that affects about 15-20% of the population. HSPs process sensory data more deeply, are often more empathetic, attuned to subtleties, and can be deeply moved by art, nature, and emotional experiences. At the same time, we’re more prone to overwhelm, overstimulation, and emotional burnout.
In this blog, we’ll explore what it really means to be highly sensitive. That means diving into both the beauty and the challenges — from navigating relationships and careers as an HSP, to creating boundaries, practicing self-care, and learning how to thrive in a world that often feels too loud, too fast, and too much.
Here, you’ll find:
Personal stories and reflections from life as an HSP
Tools and strategies for emotional resilience
Tips for self-care, mindfulness, and boundaries
Insightful looks at relationships, work, and creativity through the HSP lens
A sense of community — because you’re not alone
Whether you’re just discovering high sensitivity for the first time, or you’ve known for years and are looking for connection and deeper insight, I hope this blog becomes a place of comfort, learning, and empowerment for you.
Let’s redefine what it means to be sensitive — not as something to fix, but something to understand, honor, and celebrate.
With sensitivity and strength,
Your fellow HSP
