Why CLEAR Goals Create Lasting Change
When it comes to setting goals, most of us have been taught the SMART model. Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Time-bound. It’s practical, but it often misses something vital: where those goals are coming from.
Are they born from wisdom, values, and courage — or are they driven by fear, avoidance, or pressure?
That’s why, in the Conscious Mind Empowerment Method, I introduce a different way forward: CLEAR Goals.

From SMART to CLEAR
CLEAR Goals ensure that the goals you set are not just practical, but also deeply aligned with the Conscious Mind. This is the part of you that is home to your wisdom, kindness, values, logic, and courage. The /conscious Mind can help you avoid falling into the traps laid by the Rooted Mind, which often pushes us toward goals shaped by anxiety, perfectionism, or self-criticism.
Here’s what CLEAR stands for:
• C — Conscious-Mind Led
Goals are grounded in your best self, not in fear or avoidance.
Ask: “Am I setting this goal from wisdom and values, or from pressure and anxiety?”
• L — Linked to Values
Every goal moves you closer to the life you want to live and the person you want to be.
• E — Expressed in Positive Action
Goals should describe what you will do, not what you want to stop doing.
Instead of: “Stop procrastinating.”
Try: “Work on my project for 20 minutes today.”
• A — Actionable in Spite of Emotion
CLEAR Goals acknowledge that unwanted feelings may show up — and you can still act anyway.
• R — Realistic & Time-Bound
Goals are achievable within your current circumstances, with a timeframe that keeps you accountable.

How CLEAR Goals Fit into the Conscious Mind Empowerment Method
CLEAR Goals form the first part of the Conscious Mind Empowerment Method. They give you a foundation for meaningful change, ensuring that your direction is grounded in values rather than avoidance.
Once goals are set, the method continues with:
1. Unpacking Barriers – recognising Rooted Mind patterns that get in the way (like limiting beliefs or emotional blockers).
2. The 4-Step Change Process – a practical framework (Focus Reset, Self-Compassion, Reframing, and Mindful Valued Living) that helps you stay grounded and keep moving forward, even when obstacles appear.
Together, these three parts create a process that doesn’t just set goals — it empowers you to follow through with compassion, perspective, and courage.
