The Secret of Asking For Support

Posted on September 11, 2025 by Denise Foss, One of Thousands of Life Coaches on Noomii.

Asking for support isn’t weakness - it’s wisdom. Discover how leaning on others can sustain your personal power and expand what’s possible.

You can stand in your personal power and ask for support. It’s not weakness; it’s wisdom in action.

There’s strength in knowing when you need a hand, a heart, or a moment of shared breath. It takes courage to admit you can’t or don’t want to do it all alone.

There’s a myth that we have to be so strong that we don’t need anyone… that we have to do things on our own to learn… that we have to figure things out for ourselves. And that asking for support is weakness – that it means we aren’t good enough, strong enough, or “enough” of whatever it might be.

But it’s just that: a myth.

There’s a time and place—yes, it’s important to learn to think for yourself and draw your own conclusions. It can be helpful to grow and stretch beyond your capabilities. And it can be crucial that, as you work to unlock the potential inside you, you create enough tension to challenge and focus you.

But none of that means you can’t ask for help.

Asking for support isn’t asking someone to “save” you. Support can look like asking someone to sit with you, to help you think something through, or to hold your hand for a moment as you move into the next step you’ve decided to take.

We may be alone inside our own minds, but we aren’t on this planet alone. We are here with people. We create with others. So it’s natural (and powerful!) to receive support from others, deepening shared experiences and leveraging the strength of connection.

Support doesn’t diminish your power; it sustains it. It allows you to tap into a collective strength… sometimes through a whole community, and sometimes through one person who truly sees you.

Asking can be a powerful act of self-honoring.

A good practice is to pause first. Get clear on what you need or simply share honestly if your ask isn’t yet clear. Can you release any resistance or guilt around asking? Can you frame your request with openness instead of assumption, from a place of non-attachment but also possibility?

Because the question isn’t: What if they say no?
The question is: What becomes possible if you just ask?

Support isn’t just about solving problems, it’s about expanding what’s possible. When you ask for support, you invite perspective, energy, and accountability that can move you forward faster and with more ease than going it alone.

This is exactly why I coach, and why I’ve created tools like the Stand in Your Power card deck (coming soon!) because growth doesn’t have to happen in isolation. Sometimes it takes a reminder, a reframe, or a guide alongside you to help shift what feels heavy into what feels doable.

So, if you’re in a season where you know you want more clarity, momentum, or confidence, consider where you can invite in support. Coaching is one way, but so is community, friendship, and even daily practices that anchor you back to your own power.

The truth is: you were never meant to carry it all alone.
