How to handle whatever comes at you

Posted on May 11, 2012 by Denise Michelle Starrett, One of Thousands of Life Coaches on Noomii.

Reframe a “problem” into an “opportunity.”

Wouldn’t you agree that you are better able to handle what comes at you in life when you are feeling centered, capable, and confident?

Let’s try something together.

Take a moment to remember a time when you felt centered, capable, and confident.

…

Because you could reference those qualities in this moment, you can access this state of being anytime, anywhere, with anyone, as you choose. (It’s OK not to switch states immediately. Try the exercise again.)

Here is the energetic makeover opportunity. We slip into victim thinking, emotions, and behaviors when we do not honor our power to choose our state of being, regardless of what is happening around us.

Anytime you frame a situation, event, or circumstance in your mind with, “the problem here is…,” you will experience the emotional consequences of catabolic, anxious energy. It not only feels constricting, your abilities are hindered. On the other hand, if you were to frame the same situation, event, or circumstance with, “the opportunity here is…,” you would experience anabolic, constructive, confident energy. Feeling this way, you would be more likely to act in a positive, powerful way.

To fully understand this energetic in-the-moment switch, try it. Take a situation and consciously frame it in your mind as a “problem,” then as an “opportunity.”

Now let me ask you which thought and emotional state do you find not only feels better but would most likely support you in handling the situation?
