Two Secrets To Success You Don’t Want To Overlook

Posted on July 27, 2012 by Beate Chelette, One of Thousands of Entrepreneurship Coaches on Noomii.

Discover what you need, besides talent, to further your career.

What if someone told you, as they did me a couple of months ago, that what you say and do will either further or boycott your success? A bit scary, right? Surely, there are other things at work, too. Like talent, IQ, upbringing and all the hard work we put in.

Seeing things clearly, particularly ourselves, belongs right near the top of attributes that lead to success. Let’s start with ourselves. Have you noticed that most people seem to have a different idea of what their real capabilities are, while everyone else around them sees the obvious?

A good example of this tendency is American Idol. During the audition process, some of the most untalented singers, who have neither charisma nor pitch, are genuinely crushed and surprised when they don’t make it to Hollywood. That got me thinking. How can the rest of America see so clearly that some of these contestants have zero chance to win the contest and yet they react as if it is the first time they’ve heard they can’t hold a note?

Honest Self Evaluation

How does this relate to you? Chances are that in your business you are not equally good at everything you do. It’s true for all of us. This is where honest self-evaluation comes in.
From a positive side, what is it that makes you stand out? What do people truly respond to the most? What are your best qualities?

To find out, try this:

  • Ask your clients what they like about your work the most and why.
  • Look at your email responses and work schedule and identify what brings you the most—and least—work.
  • Ask someone who knows you really well to name your three best attributes (don’t ask which ones are your weakest!)
  • Chances are that what makes you money is what you are best at, so for the sake of cash flow, do more of what works and less of what doesn’t!

Another secret to success
It’s called work. And I can’t reiterate enough how crucial this is to furthering your success. In the bestselling book “Outliers,” author Malcolm Gladwell examined in detail a number of so called overnight successes and found that their success came gradually.
These people had incredible opportunity, yes, because they happened to be at the right place at the right time. But they also shared attributes of discipline, strong interest and hard work. In some cases, more than 10,000 hours before they became “overnight” successes. Greatness does not happen by accident, a great point made in this review of “Outliers.” http://goo.gl/U48FV

When you put 10,000 hours into something—you will be very good at it, regardless of your talent or IQ. That’s it, that’s why some people make it big and others don’t.

Regardless of where you are today, or how smooth or bumpy your current path may be,
if you do an honest self-evaluation, eliminate negative thought patterns and put the hours in, you will succeed. There just isn’t any other logical outcome.
