Why it's important to look after you, while you seek-out your dream job

Do you want to arrive at an interview looking washed-out & tired? I thought not! Here’s some tips to keep your energy, motivation, & spirits high

TAKE A BREAK

I mean both during writing an application and in-between applications. Make sure you take 5 minutes every 45 minutes (you’ll work faster after that), and have at least one day off each week, preferably two. Plus, taking breaks will ensure you don’t give up and keeping putting-up with that job you’re doing now.

FUN, FUN, FUN, FUN, FUN, FUN, FUN

An evening out with friends, a nice meal with your partner, playing with the kids or your pets, watching some comedy – whatever works for you.

Do them twice a week or more. They will keep your spirits up and help you see all the wonderful things you do have in your life, even if you haven’t yet secured your dream job.

THIS IS YOUR LIFE

Get a nice notebook or an app on your phone, and every day write something that you’re good at, or something you’ve achieved in your life.

It could be “got an interview”, “am kind to animals”, “passed my driving test”, “had an evening off with my partner”, or even things dating back to your early childhood like “learned to talk”. This gives you daily reminders of how successful you are – and that you have been for years.

GET MOVING LADY!

Physical activity – whether it’s going to the gym, dancing, or a walk round the block – will help you release stress, allow you to have great ideas while you’re thinking about something else, and build your energy reserves.

The UK government recommends getting really active three times a week. (If that feels impossible, hey, once a week is better than nothing!)

AND NOW, RELAX

We often confuse “switching-off” with relaxing, so make sure you do some pure relaxation activities as well.

Yoga, meditation, visualisation, having a massage, slowing your breathing for 60 seconds – these are all examples of actual relaxation. They’ll reduce your stress and re-build your energy.

GOOD FOR YOU!
With all this energy, you will be unstoppable, and your verve will be plain to see!
