Happiness seekers—those women (and men too) who are consciously and continually making the effort to improve the contentedness of their life.
And while philosophers often speak of how simple it is to achieve genuine happiness, it seems like many happiness-seekers are moving at the rate of one step forward and two steps back.
Let me help you get started by giving you some new things to think about…
Avoid the 3 Colossal Mistakes Happiness-Seekers Make that Keep Them Chasing, Pursuing, and Coming Up Short on the Happiness Scale— Every Time
1. Lip service: Every happiness seeker has read at least some material on how to achieve happiness—and many have read volumes on the subject. The problem is that many of these happiness-seekers have become more proficient at regurgitating the material than they have in practicing what they read. So the knowledge and wisdom they have is filtered more towards lip service than action. And as we all know… “all talk and no action…” is not the way to genuine happiness.
2. The pursuit for the bigger and better and the more perfect: Despite knowing that money and things and more success don’t buy happiness, there are happiness seekers out there who still rely on these concepts to feel worthy. They seek to strengthen their value from the validation they hope to get from others for their bigger and better achievements. And while these happiness seekers understand that “the bigger and better and more perfect” has nothing to do with happiness, they don’t quite understand how to separate their personal worth and value from these things. And in their journey to find their self-worth they continue coming up short on the happiness scale.
3. The continuous desire to improve yourself: We live in a Self-improvement and Self-development Era. And with the happiness trend in full bloom, compulsive happiness-seekers are constantly on the lookout for how they can make themselves better, more in the flow with the universe, so they can be… happier. Along this continual self-improvement journey they forget to just enjoy who they are and what only they have to offer. It can be hard to be happy when you constantly tell yourself “I need to change this about myself… and I need to adjust that…” Philosophers have been telling us for centuries that happiness comes when you ‘just are’ and the latest science is now saying the same thing. So don’t forget to ‘just be’ and enjoy what you are next time you feel you need to hop on to the self-improvement treadmill.
