Goals are complex, yet valuable. Here is a cheat sheet of why goals help you get to where you want to go build happiness, and success, not to mention, feelings of accomplishment

How to stick with them?
1. Connect goals to values like gratitude and staying healthy.
2. Come up with images or reminders to stay connected to your deeper sense of purpose (set up a vision board or just photos to remind you of why you’re doing this.)
3. Think of framing a goal around the process, not just the outcome.
4. Build in a social component. Research shows social support increases happiness and success.
5. Anticipate that important goals may raise anxiety and stress temporarily. Plan what to do in your mind if that happens, before it happens. You’ll have less fear, more mental toughness and reach your goals.
6. Plan for setbacks and negative emotions like disappointment and frustration. Two steps forward, one step backward.
7. Create an if/then plan for obstacles. Rainy day – meet a friend at the gym. Success is all about flexibility, and rebound.
8. Stay flexible about what’s working and let your good self do the talking when times get tough.
9. Embrace not just your goal, but embrace yourself. Remember you don’t have to be perfect.
