HOW TO GIVE YOUR MIND A MAKEOVER

Posted on September 30, 2015 by Jean Powers, One of Thousands of Life Coaches on Noomii.

Does your life feel out of control? Is your anxiety dominating your life? Learn how to break your pattern of negative thinking.

• The first thought of the day sets your mood and attitude for that day.

• First appreciate how important your own voice is to yourself. 100 people can tell you something great about yourself. 1 person can tell you something awful or mean spirited, the one mean voice trumps the others.

• We believe our own voice over anyone else’s, almost always. Studies have shown that we believe what WE tell ourselves 85 to 95 % of the time. Even if the original voice of negativity was external; a parent, sibling, teacher, coach. If you believed those words, they now belong to you. They are now your thought life; this is good news!
If you can believe a negative thought, you can unbelieve a negative thought.

• Start your day with self-appreciation. When you were born, your mind was a blank slate. A newborn does not enter the world thinking, “If I had only put my shoulder down and tucked my head, I would have had a safer and much more enjoyable trip down the shoot.” Or “if I had entered the world more gracefully I wouldn’t have caused any pain, I would have ‘stuck the landing’ and come out singing not crying.”

• How many days do you open your eyes in the morning and have a negative thought just pop in? It is probably so often that the better question would be, how often do you open your eyes and have a positive thought? At least you can count those days.

• How you think is how you feel. So if you wake up feeling off, immediately notice what you are thinking.

• If you wake up feeling poorly, immediately think that this is a bad moment – it will pass. It is essential to catch our thoughts as soon as we can. It is easier to work with a pliable somewhat groggy mind, because we haven’t made an absolute negative decision, yet, about our day.

• Gratitude – thoughts like:
I am thankful for my breath
I am thankful that while my body was unconscious during the night all my vital organs continued to work.

• If you believe in a higher power, this is a great time to give thanks to Him / Her / It.
If not, it is fact that your body has survived the night – start thanking it.

• Decide how you want to feel today.

• “Mediocrity is not acceptable” is a common belief. To be ordinary or ‘just normal’ = not good enough. As children we were told what to think as soon as we opened our eyes. Get ready for school, perform, don’t get in trouble, stay way under the radar or way over it. Take back control of your thinking.

• Choices – good choices change lives.

• We have the privilege to start every new day with a new choice / decision. If you desire a healthy life – you must begin with a healthy decision to have one.

• When you are depressed or too paralyzed to make good choices, make the decision to desire health. Any movement towards change will enhance your process. Tell yourself, I want to desire a healthy life.

• When we visualize something we can accomplish it. Athletes are taught to imagine success in their sport step by step, thousands of times before they begin their game. If your mind can imagine it, your body can incorporate it into muscle memory. So at first if you need to stay still and imagine feeling well or doing something – GO FOR IT.

• What you visualize, turns into thought, which your body can make sense out of and process. Healthy visualization will not let you down.

• Understand that we decide for ourselves, what we think. We experience success and a life that thrives as we change the thoughts that aren’t working for us.

YOUR NEW WAY OF THINKING STARTS NOW!
