Inspiration and Action

Posted on November 26, 2010 by Lise Mathieu, One of Thousands of Executive Coaches on Noomii.

Are you inspired to achieve great things yet fall short of the mark? Maybe a coach is just the solution for you.

Inspiration and Action

My friend Coach Charley is really a great guy. In his latest post, he had this to say about Inspiration and Action. I thought it was bang on so I decided I would share it with you.

_Inspiration comes in so many forms that it is impossible to keep up with them. With the explosion of social media in all its forms, the ideas are coming at us at an exponential rate. And then there are the books, conferences, workshops, friends, and television programs who offer solid clues to that elusive state called ‘inspiration’.

Yikes!

It occurs to me that exposing ourselves to all this positive stuff has a negative side: if we hear or read enough of it we actually start to believe we have changed. It’s like we have vicariously transformed into someone new. Then, of course, the afterglow wears off and the same old you soldiers on wondering ‘is this all there is?’.

While it’s enjoyable and relatively easy to take in all the inspiring messages (including this one!), taking any action is much harder to do. Without acting on all the wonderful ideas we are exposed to, they remain just wonderful ideas.

The biggest reason nothing ever happens is that if we don’t intimately understand ourselves, our needs, our natural strengths and style, and we end up like a dog in a field of bones – trying everything but really accomplishing nothing.

Coaching Point: Go get some accurate information about yourself – like an assessment – and use that as the foundation for sustainable positive change. Or…hire a coach ._
