Fear, My Old Friend!

Sometimes our dreams are just more important than the fear that accompanies their pursuit.
Franklin D. Roosevelt said, “Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the assessment that something else is more important than fear.” I can tell you first hand that there are some fears that accompany dream seekers. It’s those who realize that their dream and vision are just too big to let something like fear stand in the way, that find success. We can define success in a few different ways, but this will have to wait for our next blog entry. For now, lets remain our focus on fear. When it comes to standing up to your fear, you realize that what you have to do is just a few notches greater than what may or may not happen. Sometimes I hear people say that fear is not real or that it is an illusion. I can see the point that they are making but one must realize that fear is in fact a real emotion and quite a present one when stepping into the unknown. It is not a matter of pretending that this entity is not present, but not allowing this presence to persistently cause your hesitance. The moment we allow ourselves to believe we can see clearly into the future, a future that holds the certain demise of our crazy thought; once we allow it to become “reality”, we’ve lost. What we have lost is this: the beauty and the color of our dream, the mysterious excitement of stepping into pure darkness with the possibility of it becoming absolute light or staying pure darkness, the soul’s craving being met (every soul is different, so to pinpoint one that covers all would be unlikely), the heart beating as boldly as you were to seek your dreams, eyes that have seen “never-gonna-happen” become “wait-until-you-see-this”, and so much more. If you are willing to give these things up, then please, I invite you to let your fears win. I’d also like to tell you that it will be easy to allow your dreams to die, but I can assure you, it is a very painful death. Does this mean that pursuit will be easy of those dreams? Never. But it is the kind of difficult that makes life alive.
