How the World’s Most Successful People Start Their Day (Part 1)

Posted on March 09, 2019 by Mike Acker, One of Thousands of Executive Coaches on Noomii.

Most people today live their lives on autopilot. Can you relate? Take the modeled behavior of three leaders and mold a morning routine that fits you.

Most people today live their lives on autopilot.

Can you relate? Think about your morning routine. Wake up, hit the snooze button (once, twice, maybe even thrice), check your social media or emails in bed, get dressed in a hurry, grab one cup of coffee, skip breakfast because there’s no time… and race to your desk before your boss sees you coming in late.

People who are successful swear by their morning routines, and for good reason. Chances are, if you’re not in the best mood in the morning, you’re going to be in a worse mood at the end of a long and tiring day. Either you run the day… or the day runs you. Here are three extremely successful people who know exactly how to “run” their day.

Jeff Bezos

As the founder of Amazon, Bezos certainly has a lot on his plate. But he knows how to prioritize his mornings. The first few hours of the day are dedicated to breakfast with his family, reading the paper, and calming himself down – which means a strict ‘no’ to even thinking about work before 10 am.

It’s very important to take “time outs” and focus on the people you love. Your inbox, as full as it may be, can wait. Your family, on the other hand, shouldn’t have to.

Tony Robbins

One of the world’s most well-known motivational speakers and life coaches, Robbins swears by his morning “priming” technique. He starts with a quick moment of deep breathing meditation (Pranayam). Next, he feels thankful for the things he has and visualizes himself achieving the things still on his list. He ends this routine with a one-minute cold shower.

This routine is short and sweet, perfect for those who don’t have more than fifteen minutes to spare. The ancient breathing technique, coupled with the cold shower, gives you an instant energy boost, while the practices of gratitude and visualization keep you positive, focused, and ready to take charge of the day.

Oprah Winfrey

She didn’t go from rags to riches by accident. America’s favorite talk show host believes in “tuning in” to the mind and body, first thing in the morning. After 20 minutes of meditation, followed by a 15-minute high-intensity cardio workout, she goes for a walk, listens to good music, and eats a healthy breakfast.

This combination of meditation and exercise will keep your stress levels low and your mood positive. And whether you’re short on time or not, eating something healthy for breakfast – whether it’s a granola bar or a protein shake – is still better than grabbing a Frappuccino at Starbucks on your way to work.

YOU

Whether your morning routine is as precise as Tony Robbins’ or more elaborate as Oprah’s, make sure your routine leaves you feeling positive, energized, and excited to see what’s in store for you. Take their modeled behavior and mold a morning routine that fits you.

Don’t let life pass you by on autopilot. Make the decision today to turn inspiration into action.
