Is your New Year Resolution a New Career?
Are you considering a new career in the new year? Here are some questions to ask yourself prior to embarking on your quest for the ultimate job
With the end of the year approaching, we often take a moment and look at our career and ask ourselves the following
Are we feeling as though we are making a contribution in our job that’s meaningful?
Are we valued by our employer?
Are we growing in our skills and responsibilities?
Long term what is our future?
Is my organization still respected and growing in the market?
Has my earning potential plateaued?
Or maybe we wake up and ask Is this all there is? I just can’t do this one more day!
If you are wrestling with any one or all of the answers to the questions above perhaps it’s time to explore a career change. I have a lot of people above the age of 40 ask if it’s even possible to pivot to a new career? Can they even take on new training or make a move to a new industry?
There may be a voice of doubt or fear come to mind and it’s very hard to ignore these feelings. Naturally it’s hard to let go of familiarity. We become creatures of habit and take the path of least resistance. But there comes a day when we need to look inward and examine what is truly important in our lives. What’s going to provide us with the most fulfilling career.
Regrets are chances that people don’t take! We need to start saying yes to ourselves and believing that we are capable of managing something new and embrace change!
We all poses unique gifts and it’s our responsibility to share those gifts to make a meaningful contribution to feel fulfilled.
What is your unique gift?
What matters most to you?
What would you love doing with your time?
What would you do with your talent and skill?
These are questions we can explore while helping you to identify if making a career change is right for you. Perhaps you are being forced in to a career change and need some help determining what is the next path for you.
