Paradigms and Perceptions

Posted on January 15, 2020 by Muhammad Hijazi, One of Thousands of Executive Coaches on Noomii.

When we change the way we look at things; things we look at change!

Why two persons can see the same thing differently? Two people walk in a garden, one can see a flower as source of love and beauty, another can just enjoy its smell and a third passes by it without even noticing! On the beach, one can see the sea as a symbol of richness, depth and abundance while someone else sees it as just a salt water!

People differ in their perception to things, ideas, events and people and they can be all correct! As each one reflects his own paradigm that is a mind map on his brain. The question here, can we change that and the answer is definitely yes. Moreover, the surprise is that when you change the way you look at things; things you look at change!

I lived in a building for few years, one of my neighbor I used to meet in the parking, was not smiling at all each time I met him, even he looked as if he’s not happy to see me , “that was my paradigm” This made me also doing the same, whenever I meet him, I also feel that ‘Me Not Welcoming Him’ thing in my heart. One day, I was just finished my gym and in a super mood, I met him again in the parking, but this time a said to myself, maybe he is also has the same feeling and ‘Paradigm’ against me and he could be a very kind nice person, let me try something different this time. I came close to him and said: "Hi, how are you today? " with a kind smile … Since then .. we are close friends!

This opened the door to examine my paradigms and perception about many things and start to be more open and flexible to accept other people opinions and thoughts. Doing so will ultimately develop a wisdom and abundance.
