How to find your key DIFFERENTIATOR

Posted on January 21, 2020 by BJ Jhaveri, One of Thousands of Business Coaches on Noomii.

This article helps you in pinpointing your key differentiators. It's your unique strength or X-factor that differentiates you from others.

Generally, at the beginning of our career, we choose a particular job or profession based on our academic qualification and initial interests. Gradually some of us move to newer avenues either by finding a need in the market or having a vision about fulfilling a market need. While some of us get in a climb-the-ladder type of career path.

Eventually, the most contented and optimally successful people are those who have engaged in a conscious attempt over time to shape their work such that it reflects their unique abilities.

Your key DIFFERENTIATOR is where you have a natural tendency to be effective. It’s where you create the most unique value for your effort. It is important to understand the patterns present in those moments when you have delivered extraordinary results. It’s like winning half the battle as it enables you to excel in those endeavors without expending much conscious effort.

Let’s use the below-mentioned steps to pinpoint your key differentiator:

· Draw three intersecting circles as shown in the attached visual diagram. Title them as PROFICIENCY | PURPOSE | PROMINENCE

· In the PROFICIENCY circle: list your core skills and professional competencies

· In the PURPOSE circle: list your passions and personal interests

· In the PROMINENCE circle: list your economic engine drivers – aspects that got you rewards and recognition

Review the items written in the above three circles to make further modifications if need be. Now in the intersection space of the 3 circles, write items that are interconnected to all these 3 circles – aspects that have a conjunction to each of these circles.

In order to thrive, it is vital to focus on your key DIFFERENTIATOR!
