Your Voice: What Does It Mean to Be Heard?
Posted on June 27, 2025 by Enza Richards, One of Thousands of Life Coaches on Noomii.
Have you ever sat in a room full of people and felt invisible?
Or shared something meaningful, only to be met with silence or a distracted nod?
In a world overflowing with noise, opinions, and constant commentary, being truly heard is rare.
To be heard is not just to have your words acknowledged. It’s to feel seen, valued, and understood. It’s to know that your presence matters.
Our voice is more than what we say. It’s our identity. Our agency. Our power. For some, that voice shows up with bold ideas and confident expression. For others, it’s the quiet courage to speak up after years of silence, to challenge injustice, or to tell your truth.
When we aren’t heard, we pull back.
We shrink.
We doubt.
We disconnect from the Creative, Clear, Compassionate self within us.
“Most people do not listen with the intent to understand. They listen with the intent to reply.”
—Stephen Covey
So what does it really take to be heard—and to hear others?
- Listening with genuine curiosity
- Resisting the urge to interrupt, solve, or defend
- Asking: Why is this being shared with me?
- Making space where all voices feel welcome
- Giving yourself permission to speak with clarity and conviction
Being heard is a gift—one we can offer others and ourselves. When we listen with care and speak with clarity, we create space for connection, self-trust, and growth. It’s a practice that deepens how we show up—in life and in our work.
