We’ve all heard about time management and stress management, but there’s a deeper layer we don’t talk about nearly enough: emotional energy management.
Emotional energy is the fuel behind everything you do—how you think, how you feel, how you show up for your family, your clients, and yourself. And unlike time, emotional energy doesn’t flow on a schedule. It can be drained in a moment by a difficult conversation, a sleepless night, or simply absorbing someone else’s energy without realizing it.
As a coach, businesswoman, and woman of 80 years who has raised seven children, led a successful real estate career, and navigated profound personal loss, I’ve learned that emotional energy is sacred. When you learn to manage it, you unlock clarity, calm, and courage that no to-do list can give you.
What Is Emotional Energy?
Emotional energy is your life force. It is the internal fuel that powers your thoughts, your moods, and even your physical body. When it is flowing well, you feel grounded, creative, focused, and open. When it is drained, you might feel foggy, reactive, anxious, or emotionally exhausted, even if nothing major has happened.
Often, we think we are tired from doing too much, but what we are really experiencing is emotional depletion.
How We Leak Emotional Energy
You might be leaking emotional energy if you:
• Are always on, even when you are alone
• Absorb other people’s moods or stress
• Second-guess yourself constantly
• Suppress your own feelings to keep the peace
• Say yes when your body is saying no
These small, daily leaks add up. Over time, they lead to burnout, resentment, disconnection, and physical symptoms like fatigue, headaches, or insomnia.

Practical Tools to Start Reclaiming Your Energy
Here are a few micro-practices I use with my clients and in my own life:
1. The Pause and Breathe
Before reacting, take three slow, conscious breaths. This moment of pause helps reset your nervous system and gives you time to choose your response instead of being hijacked by emotion.
2. Emotional Check-In
Ask yourself, “Is this feeling mine?”
You might be surprised how often we carry stress, sadness, or fear that doesn’t even belong to us.
3. Tapping (EFT)
This is one of my favorite tools. A few minutes of tapping on specific meridian points while acknowledging your emotions can shift anxiety, frustration, or overwhelm more quickly than most traditional methods.
4. Grounding Rituals
Walk barefoot on the earth. Put your hand on your heart. Light a candle and speak a truth. These small acts call your energy back home to your body.
Emotional Energy Management is Self-Leadership
Managing your emotional energy is not a luxury. It is an essential act of self-leadership. When your energy is clear, your vision is clear. Your yes means yes. Your no means no. You stop operating from survival and start moving from alignment.
You show up as the woman you were created to be. Centered. Powerful. Free.
