Case Study: Unlocking Tunnel Vision

Tunnel vision can negatively impact a leader's perspective, leading to negative consequences such as diminished creativity, and poor decision-making.
One of my clients, a senior sales executive felt undermined when their new leader overruled several key performance evaluations. This unexpected intervention led the client to question their judgment, despite believing their assessments were accurate. The client argued that the leader lacked a thorough understanding of the team and the company’s performance standards.
Through our coaching interaction, the client realized their evaluations had been based more on personal observations than objective data, while the new leader used quantifiable metrics. This epiphany shifted the client’s perspective. Motivated by this insight, the client developed a more objective and transparent evaluation system using data-driven metrics and standardized criteria. This initiative improved the evaluation process and supported personal growth, resulting in enhanced team morale and productivity.Coaching can provide valuable perspective to enable you to overcome tunnel vision.
