IQ or EQ - Do you really know the score? Part II

Posted on July 17, 2017 by Cheryl Keates, One of Thousands of Executive Coaches on Noomii.

75% of Fortune 500 Companies use EQ as predictor of performance

In Part I of “IQ or EQ?” we explored the power of the traditional IQ in predicting performance, success and everything needed to “leap tall buildings in a single bound.” Until now. Now the preponderance of research has determined that EQ (Emotional Intelligence) is the “strongest predictor of performance” and is utilized by “75% of Fortune 500 companies.” But unlike the carved-in-stone permanence of your IQ score, EQ is not static; it’s flexible; it can change, improve – it can be learned.

So just what is Emotional Intelligence? Simply stated, EQ is our ability to recognize and understand both our own emotions and those of the people around us. It is the ability to use or control our behavior, influence the behavior of others and manage our relationships, successfully. Not so simply, your EQ is a vast collection of skills – inherent or acquired – that impact everything you say or do.

While EQ has absolutely nothing to do with your IQ, combined, along with your personal syle or personality, these are the parts of the great puzzle that make you, YOU. How perfect that the greatest piece, your Emotional Intelligence, is the only one you can improve and enhance through practice, through coaching, through committing to being the best version of you that you can be.

With your family and friends, within the intimacy of your personal love relationships, imagine the sea change that would come with a new clarity about your own feelings, a new willingness to express them, a new empathy to the feelings of others and a totally new toolbox for facing challenge, easing stress and diffusing the differences that are impossible to diffuse. Where else can you achieve this?

It’s in the workplace that we, too often, ignore or underestimate the significance of feelings and our ability to effectively process them. Now consider this: how important is it to develop and maintain solid relationships with your clients? How disruptive is the employee that crushes it at his job but can’t communicate and won’t listen to his co-workers? How intimidating is the dismissive boss, the sarcastic partner or the bullying manager? How much do you LOVE going to work? So what’s the value of a high EQ?

According to the Gallup-Global Consulting company, a caring boss was more important than higher wages and more benefits. Even more startling, after interviewing two million employees at 700 companies, Gallup learned that the employees time at the company and quality of productivity was directly related to their relationship with their Manager. Period. Who knew?

You knew. Your Boss, probably, knew. Cheryl knew, too. That’s why she has successfully completed the intensive EQ-I 2.0/EQ 360 Certification Program in addition to her Professional Certified Coach (PCC) designation. Now she can assess and evaluate your Emotional Intelligence; target areas needing training and improvement; and mainly BUILD UPON YOUR STRENGTHS to dramatically improve your performance, strengthen your interaction skills and solidify your leadership qualities.

YOU are the most likely to succeed. Are you ready to test your EQ?
