MIND GAMES

Posted on August 26, 2018 by Sydney Ceruto, One of Thousands of Life Coaches on Noomii.

How our minds play tricks on us and how to stop it.

Our minds naturally play tricks on us, twisting and distorting our thoughts in ways that are not always rational. Even though we’d like to think we’re always logical, we’re not. We are at the mercy of cognitive biases, emotions, and misconceptions and most of it is completely unseen by us.

Sometimes we’re too close, too involved in it to even realize. It’s up to us to slow down, take a step back and reach out for help to understand what’s really going on.

I encourage my clients face their problems as they come, one by one; giving them the attention they need and then moving on. This approach takes patience, precision, and discipline of thought.

This is a foundational part of the work I do with nearly every client. It is essentially the only way to stop those persistent MIND GAMES.

You need to learn to work through each item pragmatically and with a solution in mind. Remember, everything is solvable, and if you can’t see a solution, it only means you haven’t worked it out yet. However, often the reason you cannot see the “answer” is because you are too close to the problem.

Zoom out a little, zoom out A LOT and look at the big picture. This is a phenomenon I call “cognitive restructuring”-shifting the way in which your problems are presenting themselves in your life.

When you’ve finally put things into perspective, you’ll come to your assertion: “I got this.” You’ll start to really believe it, experience it, and live from it.

Remember, the peculiar thing about bad moods is that we often fool ourselves and create misery by telling ourselves things that simply are not true.
