I Will Be Happy When...
I see it all the time. People are wishing their lives away. They say they will be happy when they retire, when they good relationships and health.
They say they will be happy when they retire, when they have enough money in the bank, when they get married, when they get divorced, when they get in better shape, when they conquer an illness, when they can fit into size 2 dresses, when they have children, when their children are grown, when the weather changes, when they get a car, when this day is over.
I would like you to try something. Sit down somewhere that you feel safe, cozy and warm. Close your eyes. Breathe. Keep your eyes closed and notice…..
Notice what is around you. As I type this, my eyes are closed and this is what I feel and hear. I feel my fingers typing these words. I feel the sun shining in on me, there is a gentle breeze, and the clock is ticking on the mantle. I hear the wings of the hummingbirds in the back yard, as the come to the feeder for food. I feel the warmth of the couch beneath me. I smell the amazing cup of cardamom tea I made just before I sat down to write this. I feel the knowing that all is well. Sure people in our lives will have drama, and we will always be faced with something that might not make us entirely happy. But if you can just sit. listen, hear and feel the moment, you will know like you know, that you can be happy at any time in your life.
We all have the intention to be happy – SOMEDAY!. Some day is today. And every day. Instead of saying I will be happy Someday, why not say, I was happy today, that was Some Day! Let’s do it again tomorrow.
Nothing that happens to you is personal. Whatever is happening outside of you; is outside of you. People come and people go. Every behavior has a positive intention. Let your intention be to be happy in this moment – and in this moment.
With each day we have the choice to begin again.
