Tips on how to overcome resistance to making positive change in your life!

Often my clients show me that despite having a clear desire to make a positive change, there is resistance and self sabotage!
Self sabotage is nearly always based on a part of you wanting to stay in the comfort and safety of what is familiar even if it is not serving your higher self or purpose. Making positive change can often feel uncomfortable and risky, exposing you to the unknown even if that means you will be happier, joyful more fulfilled and more aligned to your purpose. Very often my clients will show a part of themselves that is holding them back from making these changes because that part is based on a old outdated system that dates back to childhood, where safety, security, control and comfort were paramount and had good reason to be present. A particular experience, stimulus, behaviour or feeling can trigger this resistance or self sabotage.
Self sabotage and resistance to change is often grounded in well meaning intentions that were essential in childhood but now as adults need to be addressed if we are to be let loose so we can give ourselves completely to embracing positive change and transformation!
My tips:
Whenever this resistant part shows up do your best to acknowledge it, without judgement. Simply say to yourself ´ah here is this part, I welcome this part even if it´s not operating in a helpful way´ The more that old part feels it is seen the easier it will be to start to change it.
The next step would be, once you have engaged more with that part and it feels seen, to ask it ´What is so important for it to keep operating in the way it does?´ or ´What is its core reason for existing?´ and ´What is the positive intention for this part?´
The answers will give you a better understanding of what is helpful about this part and more opportunity to start to change the behaviour of that part when it gets triggered, whilst keeping the core positive intention in place.
