Lose the Weights and Win the Race

Carrying unresolved past hurts is like running a race with weights around your ankles. You simply cannot expect to win!
Picture an athletic runner in a 200m race. See him move ahead with steely-eyed determination.
At the 100m point of the race he is ahead of the pack.
And then, inexplicably, he starts slowing down to a crawl. He winces with pain, swears out of frustration and drops out of the race.
No one can figure out what happened. When his trainers start examining him though, they notice something unusual around his ankles. He is wearing anklets made up of 100g weights.
They are puzzled. Where did these come from? He is at a loss to explain them as well.
“I used to wear them when I was training to strengthen my ankles…but I thought I’d left them behind…I have no idea why they showed up again right smack in the middle of the race!”
Of course, such a scenario is unlikely to happen in real life…but do you get the picture?
