YOUR Successes & YOUR Failures – The Common Denominator is YOU

Posted on March 22, 2011 by Suzanne Ferguson, One of Thousands of Leadership Coaches on Noomii.

Not getting the results you want? Do something different. And when great goals and a solid action plan don’t get you there - change your mind!

Did you know that the same thing that creates success also creates mistakes and failures? And that “thing” is you! You create the obstacles that are in the way of your success…don’t you hate when that happens?

It has to do with how the mind works. The mind is comprised of two elements; the conscious mind and the unconscious mind. Your conscious mind is everything you are aware of in your waking state; it is all logic and reasoning and you use it to set goals and judge results. Your unconscious mind handles everything that is automatic; bodily functions, emotions, and long-term memory. Long term memory houses your attitudes, values, and beliefs. Beliefs drive your thoughts and behaviors. If you have a belief that you are not aware of – that contradicts a goal – you will be challenged to ever reach that goal.

If you’re not getting the results you want…you need to do something different. Albert Einstein said “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results.” So, the simplest way to change your results…is to change your behaviors.

To change your behaviors, follow these steps:
Be aware of what it is that you do and do not want.
Take an action you would not normally take.
Practice the new action consistently until you’ve established a new habit.

By the way, it takes 21 days of consistent behavior to establish a new habit. So, give yourself time to ground, consolidate, and integrate your new habits!

If you’re still not getting the results you want, you need to address – and change – your unconscious mind behaviors. Changing behaviors driven by your unconscious mind takes introspection and may also require you work with a professional. The good news about changing unconscious mind behaviors…there is a very efficient and effective solution!
